This weekend Matt and I are doing the usual chores. Cleaning animal cages takes the bulk of our chore time. The finches are primarily in two flights (although there are additional cages for injured, sick, and "picked on" birds. The males are all together on the left, and the females are on the right. Each cage holds about 12 birds.
The degus (rodents indigenous to the high deserts in Chile) are named after Chilean mountain towns, Iquique (ih-key-kay) and pika, and like to chitter at you when they are annoyed or want something.
They can be very loud. They also like to chew through their water bottles, and we have had to be very creative in order to avoid spending 20$ on month on new ones!We also have rats which really do make the best rodent pets. The dark one is named Dash (boy), and the one with the big ears and white stripe is named Delilah (girl).
She is mine, and is my favorite rat that I have ever had! Matt is giving her a bath right now.
Downstairs I have started some flowers for the spring planting. This tray is of godetia, my new favorite flower. We also have starts of snaps, sweet 100 tomatoes, four o'clocks, and another tall delphinium like flower whose name I can't remember. We plan to put the tomatoes in big pots (like we did the one we purchased last year) so that we can take them with us to our new location - providing they don't sprawl like last years did!! (We had to stake one plant up with FIVE tomato cages!!)
