During the days before Christmas, we learned to really appreciate three things: the wood stove (we had heat and a way to cook), and running water and lights - things we didn't have. Dad set up the generator and so we were able to keep the fridge and a couple of lamps going, but we also used candles etc.
Dinnertime (everyone is trying to make Jesse laugh):

Several of us trying our hands at cooking.

When it was my turn I had to wear shorts to keep from boiling!

Initially, we thought that the outage would be fixed within a couple of days, but when that didn't happen, we took a look around and realized that lines had come down on roads near our home in at least three places.
Fortunately, Kristin's apartment wasn't too far away, and we were able to get over there to take showers the first few days, and then later, rigged up the camp shower at mom and dad's. It actually worked really well!! It only does take about 5 gallons to shower, and the water was nice and warm because it was heated on the top of the stove.
Everyone always felt better after shower though! Jesse really was quite good tempered for the whole week. Near the end he began to suffer from a teething bout, but all things considered, he definitely handled the lack of electricity the best!

You capture some of the funniest expressions. The picture of Meg and Jesse at the end is really a cute one.
