Record Snow - and Power Outage Fun

We were running a few errands Saturday morning, and it began to snow for the first time in a couple of weeks. We came home and checked the weather forecast, and they predicted 1-3 inches of snow Saturday, and perhaps a few snow showers Sunday morning.

Sunday morning, we were awakened at 7pm by three successive phone calls telling us that church was canceled. Of course, we got up and checked out the snow, and WOW, there was a pretty good amount! We decided that we had better start clearing out the snow at about noon, and it took us about two hours to clear the driveway. There were about 10 inches on the cars initially, and after we finished the clearing driveway, there was another inch accumulated on the car!

We decided to ask the neighbor if we could use their snow shovel (so we could both work), and they said sure - did you know that the power just went out!? We, of course, didn't, and so we hurried in to see to the animals. We figured that everyone was ok, except we were a little worried about the fish (salt water fish - normally at 78 degrees F), so we got our propane heater (made for indoor heating) and heated the living room back to 70 degrees (we used our weather station to monitor).

After we had things warmed up, Matt decided to make lunch on the propane stove on the front porch. We had spaghettios and hot chocolate. Yum!!

After we ate, we called and checked the status of the outage and the snow prediction (which had changed significantly...didn't stop at 1pm, and was going to accumulate 1-4 inches every day for the next week! ) We decided it would be wise to have more propane on hand, so we took a quick trip to Walmart before it got dark - and got stuck on our road! Someone stopped to help us...and they got stuck too! So Matt ran back to house and got the kitty litter and we managed to get out!

After we got home - the power came on! We checked the school closures and found that Eastern was closed Monday...so Matt plans to work from home tomorrow, and we are going to make snow people (and maybe a snow cow) first thing in the morning - because this snow is perfect!!
