The last day of Matt's parent's visit, we spent some time showing them the "Bowl and Pitcher" portion of the river in Riverside Park. Riverside park is a vast reserve of undisturbed land that follows both sides of the Spokane River on the west side of Spokane. It is really neat to be driving in town, and then, within less than a minute, be in the middle of the wilds!

On the trail, we found a neat clump on lichen that had fallen from a tree. We were able to identify later with my new lichen identification book!!

We like this particular section of the river because it has a swinging cable bridge and neat rock formations.

Originally the area was named for two massive rocks in the river that vaguely resemble a bowl and pitcher. Due to erosion of the rock over time, the name isn't as appropriate today.

Tillie had a great time being outside, although she was having some minor obedience issues....

She has always liked the bridge, and has never seemed at all concerned that you can see the river below you through the somewhat large spaces between boards under your feet! We always have to keep her on leash, because she is always interested in the river...even when it is 20ยบ outside!
We enjoyed a brisk walk (only about a quarter of a mile), and then came home and began to get everything packed up for Mary and Jerry to leave early the next morning. I got this black and white shot to hand in our "rogues gallery" in the hall!
